Jack est un jeune garçon qui vit très heureux à la ferme de ses parents au milieu d'animaux fabuleux comme Johnny Rooster le coq hard rocker ou Raspoutine la vache espagnole au caractère ombrageux. Toute la famille se trouve à l’abri du besoin grâce à une harpe magique qui donne le pouvoir à une poule de pondre des œufs en or massif.

Hélas, un soir d'hiver, un ogre féroce, ayant eu vent de cet enchantement, leur dérobe la harpe et la poule, plongeant le père de Jack dans une telle mélancolie qu'il en mourra peu après. Pour Jack et sa mère s'installent alors la misère et la faim...

Afin de survivre, le jeune garçon part au marché vendre la vache Raspoutine. Chemin faisant, il rencontre un curieux personnage, pianiste virtuose de son état, qui lui propose de lui échanger sa vache contre une poignée de haricots, soi-disant magiques...

Jack is a happy young boy living at his parent’s farm among fabulous animals like Johnny Rooster, the hard rocker cock or Rasputin the touchy Spanish cow. Whole the family lives free from financial worries thanks to a magical harp which grants a hen the power to lay solid gold eggs.

Unfortunately, one day, the harp and the hen are stolen by a ferocious ogre and, as a result, Jack’s father suffers from such a deep gloom that he dies and Jack and his mother are reduced to a state of dire poverty.

Once while going to the market to sell the cow Rasputin in an attempt to survive, jack meets a strange musician who offers him to exchange his cow with a handful of beans supposedly magical…
